About Rock 2 the Beat

Rock 2 the Beat is a provision from Hampshire Music Service designed to develop instrumental, vocal and band skills as well as promote growth in confidence and wellbeing. Not only an enrichment to pupils who take part in Rock 2 the Beat, but music also has a proven positive impact on other areas of the school curriculum.

Children learn contemporary rock & pop instruments - vocals, electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard and drums in a combination of small group lessons and whole band sessions, coming together at the end of each term to put on a performance.

How does it work?

- Each school is visited by a team of two experienced specialist music tutors from Hampshire Music Service.

- For the first half of each term, children are taught a 20 minute lesson in their instrumental groups, focusing on development of technique, playing basic exercises and scales on their instrument, and learning the individual parts of each term's song.

- In the second half of each term, children come together in 'band sessions', with the whole of their band. In these sessions, the focus is on piecing together the song they have learned whilst continuing to learn performance techniques and rehearsal etiquette.

- In the last week of each term, the bands then put on a performance within school to showcase everything they have been learning.

How much does it cost, and what does it include?

- £25.75 per month (from Sept 2024), payable by direct debit over 12 months each year ( £103 per term / £309 total for 3 terms)

This includes:

- a minimum of 30 lessons over the year from our team of specialist tutors

- an instrument loan (electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, or a drum pad and sticks for drummers)

- 24/7 access to a wide range of online resources, including sheet music, exercises, backing tracks and instructional videos

- End of term concert for the school/parents
